Over Marike van der Leeden

Marike van der Leeden is involved in research concerning rehabilitation in patients with musculoskeletal disorders (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic widespread pain), and patients with cancer (with a focus on peri-operative care). She has been appointed as associate professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Amsterdam UMC
(location VUmc) and Reade|Rehabilitation and Rheumatology, Amsterdam.

Her research focuses on two main areas:

(i) Effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions: she has co-supervised various clinical trials on exercise therapy and systematic reviews

(ii) Course and predictors of physical functioning: she has conducted and co-supervised research in cohort studies (e.g. Amsterdam Osteoarthritis cohort, Amsterdam Foot cohort and Follow-lung cancer surgery cohort) and systematic reviews

Marike van der Leeden values close cooperation and exchange of expertise between patients, practitioners and researchers. She has obtained several grants from NGO’s and professional associations. She is (co)author of 95 international peer-reviewed publications, more than 20 professional publications and 7 book chapters. She was involved as co-promotor in 5 successfully defended PhD theses, and is currently involved as co-promotor in 6 PhD projects. She performs editorial services for scientific journals and is involved in several boards and committees. She lectures in higher education and supervises Bachelor and Master students in ongoing research projects. She gives presentations at national and international congresses.
